The Best Place to See Flamingos in Miami: Jungle Island

Jungle Island

October 2, 2024

Does anything give more of a Miami vibe than hot pink flamingos? At Jungle Island, you can get up close with flocks of them!

As a local, trust meโ€”Jungle Island (FKA Parrot Jungle) is the best place in the Miami area to see flamingos. Learn everything you need to know to plan your visit to this wild zoological park in South Florida, designed to feel like a tropical jungle with fauna from the Florida Everglades.

Besides flamingos, youโ€™ll encounter ostriches, giant tortoises, lemurs, sloths, and more. You can even feed the animals or go tree-trekking over the jungleโ€”get the visuals, honest info, and tips below!

This post covers everything you need to know to plan your visit to see pink flamingos and more at Jungle Island in Miami!

Embrace the Shade in an Everglades Replica.

South Florida can get seriously hot (surprise!), but Jungle Island has you coveredโ€”literally. The parkโ€™s lush overhead foliage provides plenty of shade. Sourced from the Florida Everglades, the greenery forms a natural canopy. This helps keep things cooler than other outdoor spots in Miami. Explore without completely melting in the heat!

See the Flamingos Up Close.

While two other spots in the Miami area also have flamingos, they usually stay distant in the back of their habitats. At Jungle Island, the flamingos are right by the railing, giving you a great view. Plus, there are tons of flamingos to check out!

Pick your fav animal!).

Have Your Parking Prayers Answered.

Parking in Miami can be a challenge, to put it mildly. Not at Jungle Island! They offer covered parking, so your car wonโ€™t feel like the temperature of the sun’s surface after your visit. The lot is right by the entrance, so no long, exhausting walks before the good times begin. Loooots of parking spaces too (A Miami Miracle!). Parking is a luxury in Miami, and it is priced accordingly ($15 – gulp).

Be sure to take up multiple spaces and park the wrong way so everyone at Jungle Island notices your leased Maserati! (I kid, I kid.)

Unwind with a Quick and Easy Day in a Compact Space.

Jungle Island is more compact than most zoos, so it’s easy to explore in just an hour or twoโ€”unless you go for extras like Animal Encounters or tree trekking. The park is super manageable with its flat walking paths and boardwalk, perfect for a relaxed zoo day. (Fun fact: Steven Spielberg and Winston Churchill have visited Jungle Island. No confirmation on whether Winston went tree-trekking, though.)

Enjoy Aerial Views Among the Treetops.

Tree-trekking at Jungle Island is a crowd favorite! Remind yourself that sometimes it’s fun to be alive with the thrill of climbing, swinging, and zipping through the forest canopy.

Score discounts with the Garden Admission Pass promos.

General entry at Jungle Island used to be free, but currently thereโ€™s a $10 fee. Itโ€™s unclear if this is a permanent change. The entry feels a bit pricey (around $36) without the Garden Admission Pass promo, so I’d recommend taking advantage of the discount on their website! (Link here.)

Location, location, location.

Quick heads up: thereโ€™s no food or drink allowed in Jungle Island, so be sure to hydrate before your visit! They do offer food and drinks on-site (though a water bottle will set you back $10), so Iโ€™d suggest grabbing a bite beforehand or hitting up nearby Miami or Miami Beach for foodโ€”it’s perfectly situated between both! Conveniently located off the MacArthur Causeway, right across from the cruise ports, Jungle Island is the ideal stop for visitors wanting a South Florida experience before boarding a ship or catching a flight.

Coming Soon.

You may notice some construction during your visit to Jungle Island, but it’s not overly distracting. As the park undergoes upgrades, itโ€™s exciting to think about the improvements ahead. Some birds are currently in smaller enclosures, and hopefully, theyโ€™ll soon enjoy more open space to thrive.
